The Alter of Grace

by Jettie Hess

Every drop of His love spilled upon the alter of grace
And life was taken that we might come to know
The comprehending calm upon His bruised face
And quiet suffering that said, "I love you so."

Christ's life was taken for the sake of our own
His blessing was performing the Father's will
He loved and healed; He forgave every doubt
As though He weren't led to a slaughterous kill.

What happened at death when He gave up His soul
Was by the power of God's mighty victorious hand
He swiftly raised His Son, then brought Him to His side
Where He is now first born, the King of all men.

Today His love is heard of throughout all the land
He is redeeming His people and bringing them home
Their hearts know personally of His warmth and love
For He's always with them, they are never alone.
